Orthoceras Fossil Plate Small

These are the beautiful fossils of the Orthoceras, literally meaning “straight horn”. A member of an extinct cephalopod of the Orthocerida order, most date back to the Ordovocian period of roughly 490 to 440 million years ago. Found in the Moroccan region of North Africa, the Orthoceras are carved and polished by local craftsmen to make a contrast to the dark black or brown limestone that surrounds the fossil.
